Today there are various tools of financial aids available for the aspiring students including scholarships, need based awards, work-study employments and student loans. These tools can be helpful to all the students who face financial obstacles while pursuing their education. Different institutions have different procedures and different eligibility criteria for the financial aids provided by them to the students.
Many institutions conduct scholarship exams through which they calculate the student’s abilities and also provide them deduction in fee depending upon the performance of the student in the scholarship exam. Many of the institutions also provide complete scholarships for the students who perform distinguishingly well in their academic and also the scholarship exam conducted by the institute/school. There are some private as well as government organizations that provide scholarships for students of different levels for the excellence of the student or in some cases the performance of the individual in the exam conducted by them. These scholarships are in the form of lump sum amount which is sufficient for further education of the student.
Need based awards are the most popular form of financial aid nowadays. Need based awards are based on two conditions; the total cost of the education and the family’s ability to pay. Significantly, the education costs vary from institute to institute and these costs generally include all reasonable costs like fee, boarding, room and other living expenses. To apply need based aid a family has to fill and submit the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) to the institution. This form calculates how much a family (including the student’s contribution) can contribute to the annual cost of attendance. There are few formulas which will calculate how much would be provided accordingly keeping in mind the current status of the student.
Work-study employments are yet another interesting financial aid an individual can get; some of the institutions give their students the opportunity to work and at the same time study. These institutions believe in practical approach to education and a job or to be precise, internship with a stipend which is sufficient to pay off the living and other expenses as well as gives the individual a live experience of his education. There is no special eligibility criteria to join such institutions just the normal procedures are sufficient.
And the last but very efficient financial aid is the student educational loan. Many nationalized banks provide huge educational loans to the students who are aspiring for higher studies with very less interests. This loan is generally in the name of the student and he has to repay the loan after the completion of his education and started to earn.
