Choosing a Nursing Degree
Nursing is an art of understanding and comforting the pain of a person. It is the most ancient and accredited art of the world. A person who can love, care and one who has compassion for fellow beings can become a nurse. Now a day’s nursing has been elevated to the status of, the most trusted professional health stream in the world. This is attributed due to many factors. Firstly, it is due to the vast scope of this science. Yes, nursing has a lot of diversified opportunities. A qualified nurse can render her services in civil and military hospitals, health care centers, health care communities, nursing homes, old age homes, visiting nurse agencies, schools, office places and also as individual nurses offering private services. They are legible to practice as a nurse, clinical specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, nurse researchers, nurse managers and nurse educators. Thus, they can be employed anywhere irrespective of the industry. This is the main reason being, many of the students are showing interest to go for nursing studies.
Secondly, as the scope is large, there is a huge demand for nursing professionals. They are being paid around $50,000 as their initial pay in the metropolitan cities. Also they are being provided with many facilities like bonuses, an opportunity to go for further higher educational studies and flexibility in work schedule i.e. they are given three different time slots of twelve hours to work in a week.
Nursing degree is available in two different types. One is known as Associate Degree Program and Bachelor Degree Program. Associate degree program is a two year full time program, where as bachelor degree program is a four degree program. There is very limited scope in associate degree program, whereas a bachelor degree program is highly acceptable. Depending upon the candidates’ interest, any one of the programs can be chosen. The Massachusetts Association of Nurse Executives has prescribed the bachelors degree program as a prerequisite to practice nursing and considers the same as the basic level for any nurse. Though both are accredited nursing programs, most of the hospitals in Boston prefer to hire nurses, who are done with bachelor degree program. Upon the completion of the degree, and passing the NCLEX-RN examination, a person is awarded with registered nurse license (RN). Thus the person becomes a registered nurse.
Most importantly people choose this career just for the sake of servitude. The impact they can produce in the lives of others is what is highly acclaimed in the society. The human touch with which they treat their patients adds to the speedy recovery of patients. A nurse through their intimate gestures, bring in solace to the ill health people. A doctor’s service can only cure the physical illness, but a nurse’s effort can touch the inner soul of a patient.
Hence, nursing is aptly called as an art, an art of healing, an art of caring, an art of understanding the stated and unstated pain of a patient. Anyone who has the combination of service mind, patience and compassion can surely take up this profession.
